Daviess County Sheriff's Department Release Statement on Thursday Morning Incident

CANNELBURG - (March 10, 2022) - On March 10, 2022, Daviess County Sheriff Gary Allision reports law enforcement incident occured at a residence on County Road 900 East, south of Cannelburg, Indiana.




At approximately 6:56 a.m. Daviess County Central Disptach received a 911 call from a female requesting a welfare check on her father. She advised her father is an 80 - year old suffering from dementia and is a cancer patient and had armed himself with a shotgun.


Daviess County Sheriff Deputies responded to the residence and found the subject had barricaded himself in a detached garage. Deputies attempted to speack to the subject who then fired on deputies. Officers deployed a canister of CS gas as a deterrent and the subject fired upon the deputies again. After continually attempting to make contact with the subject verbally, the subject drove his vehicle through a closed garage door and collided with a deputy's patrol vehicle and were able to stop the ssubject from leaving the scene.

The male was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to Daviess Community Hospital by their ambulance service where he is being evaluated and treated. Daviess County's Sheriff's Office is sending a report to the Daviess County Prosecutor's office and Daviess County Circuit Court to enact the Red Flag Law and seized weapons.
