Dakota Sykes Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison Following Fatal Crash on Huron/Williams Road
LAWRENCE COUNTY - FEBRUARY 1, 2023 - Dakota Sykes, age 22, Springville was sentenced to ten years in prison, two of which will be served on probation after a plea agreement was reached.

Sykes, being represented by Bloomington Attorney Sam Shapiro reached a plea agreement with Lawrence County Prosecutors back in November 2022.
Sykes pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while causing death a Level 4 Felony. Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge John Plummer III sentenced Sykes to eight years in the Department of Corrections and two years on supervised probation.
Sykes was originally charged with Causing a death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08 or more, Operating a vehicle while intoxicated Endangering a person, with equivalent of .08 but less than .15 BAC, Minor consuming alcohol at least 18 and operating a vehicle.
Evidence revealed that Sykes BAC level was .124.
Jannessa Ikerd, age 20, a passenger in Sykes vehicle died in the accident that occurred on the Huron/Williams Road on Sunday May 9, 2021.
Sykes was driving a 2001 Ford Tarus and struck a tree on the east side of the roadway. Ikerd suffered internal injuries and died at the scene of the accident.
Sykes was flown from the scene of the accident by air ambulance to University of Louisville hospital for treatment. A warrant was issued on May 10, 2021, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on June 9, 2021.
