Coming soon: City of Mitchell to consider joining fire territory due to lack of ambulance coverage

MITCHELL - FEBRUARY 5, 2024 - The Lawrence County Zephyr will be providing a feature on the City of Mitchell's plan to consider joining Lawrence County's second planned fire territory.

The Lawrence County Zephyr has reached out to Marion Township Fire Chief Paul Gillespie on what a fire territory in southern Lawrence County would look like as the volunteer firefighters in Indiana dwindle in numbers.

City of Mitchell who has been without a dedicated ambulance in the city moved the proposal on to have three public hearings.

Lawrence County Zephyr will look at the proposed budget, tax levies and how Marion Township, City of Mitchell, and Spice Valley Township formation of a fire territory would benefit Lawrence County residents south of the White River.
