Updated: Combine Fire Sends Firefighters to Yockey Road Saturday evening
MITCHELL - OCTOBER 15, 2022 - Updated information on the combine fire Saturday evening:
At 6:54 pmMarion Twp Fire was dispatched to a possible combine fire and grass fire in the area of Yockey Road and Rabbitsville road. Units arrived on scene and found the combine approximately 1/4 mile off the road in the field and actively on fire along with approximately a 30 foot radius from the combine of field that was also on fire.

While combining the field near Yockey Road and Rabbitsville Rd, the operator stated he could smell something getting hot.He had stopped the combine to check the machinery. Operator found a belt drive rubbing against a stick. A hydraulic line had busted and started the fire. The operator was able to let the machine roll backwards and steer it into a ditch to stop it from going into a nearby wooded area.
Marion Twp was on scene until 9:21 pm. Marion responded with 2 Brush units, an Engine and a Tanker with 6 personnel. Shawswick assisted with 2 tankers and 3 personnel at the scene.
Orginal story:A combine caught fire Saturday evening around 6:52 p.m. in the 2100 block of Yockey Road.

The smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles, there was concern the fire could spread to the soybean field due to dry conditions.

Firefighters from the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department and Shawswick Fire Department responded to the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene until 9:21 p.m. making sure the fire was out.
This would make the second combine fire that Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to this week.
