BEDFORD - JANUARY 16, 2024 - A civil lawsuit was filed on December 31, 2020 against Michael Roach, Cedar Hill Catering who was operating the vehicle in the course of his employment, and the plaintiff Jamie Jones receiving permanent injuries as a result of the defendants actions.

The civil lawsuit has been moved to March 11, 2025 in Lawrence County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit alleges Jamie Jones has incurred medical expenses, lost wages, and other special expenses in an amount to be proven at trial.
Sun H. Davis, owner of Shorty's was later named in the lawsuit.

Attorney for Cedar Hills Catering LLC. maintains the damages was caused by Shorty's Den and their employees, or by her own fault.
The attorney for the Plaintiff Jamie Jones maintains that Roach was driving his vehicle with his blood alcohol content over the legal limit in the State of Indiana.

The lawsuit maintains that prior to the accident Roach was extremely intoxicated at the time he was served alcohol by Shorty's employees or their agents.
Shorty holding permits by the Alcohol Beverage Commission and is prohibited by law to be serving an alcoholic beverage to a person in a state of intoxication.
The lawsuit maintains that Shorty's were in violation of IC code 7-5 -10 -15 and IC code 7-1-5 -10 -15.5.
Shorty's have requested a jury trial.
A jury trial was set in Lawrence County Circuit on January 9, 2024 at 9:00 am with Lawrence County Circuit Court Judge Nathan Nikirk presiding has now been set in March 2025.
Orginal story: BEDFORD – AUGUST 30, 2023 - Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced a Mitchell man to 9 years with 5 to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction and the remaining 4 years to be served on supervised probation.
Michael (Cole) Roach, 23, pled guilty to Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 4 felony, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.
The plea agreement, negotiated by a Lawrence County Deputy Prosecutor, outlined that Roach would plead guilty to the level 4 Felony with a sentence that would be open to the court and a cap of 6 years on the executed portion.
Chief Deputy Joshua K. Scherschel said: “This defendant caused an accident which left a woman with serious, long-lasting injuries. All because he made the choice to drive while intoxicated at over twice the legal limit. This office takes drunk driving very seriously, and will not hesitate to prosecute those who make the terrible choice to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.”
On November 21, 2020 a two vehicle traffic accident was reported in the 2900 block of John Williams Blvd. with the driver Michael Woods fled from the scene from his vehicle, while the other driver Jamie Jones had to be extricated from her vehicle.
Roach was uncooperative with police while they attempted to arrest him. Officers were able to handcuff him, but refused to walk out of woods on his own. Roach had to be carried out of the woods by Bedford Police officers.
Bedford Police officers having to restrain his legs as he continued to resist arrest by kicking and flailing his legs.
A warrant was later issued for his arrest on charges related to the accident that day.
