Bedford residents to be paying more for trash pick up
BEDFORD - OCTOBER 17, 2023 - Bedford residents will soon be paying more for trash pick up as Bedford Street Commissioner David Flinn says repairs to the two trash trucks are starting to get costly.

The new trash pick-up system that required residents to purchase trash toters were a cash savings to the city as three man trash crews down to one operator in 2008.
The trash haulers are now $375,000 compared to the cost of $175,000.
A public hearing on the matter was held at the start of the city council meeting. No one spoke for or against the proposal. As the public notice was published in the Times Mail on September 27th and October 20th.
The proposed fees of $12.85 will now go up to $15.00 a month starting on December 20, 2023.
The fee will increase to $16 on December 20, 2024
The fee will increase to $16.50 on December 20, 2025
The fee will increase to $17.00 on December 20, 2026
Bedford City council member Dan Bortner was the only council member to ask questions about the proposal.
The Bedford City Council members approved the proposal up to the second passage with approval expected at their November meeting.
At this time it is not known when the city plans on purchasing a new trash truck.
