Bedford Parks Board Approves Clothing Allowance for Employees

BEDFORD - (December 21, 2021) - The Bedford Parks board approved a clothing allowance of $400 for its employees during their meeting Tuesday night.


The old allowance would permit employees to have $250 for clothing and $150 for boots, the new allowance will allow $400 for whatever the employee choses to spend their allowance on.


In other business:


  • Approved the Bedford Clerk-Treasurer automatic payroll and benefits payments for 2022

  • Approved the list for donated labor for 2022

  • Approved the 2022 Fee Structure

  • Approved the Donated Labor Schedule for 2022


The Renovation of the Red Brick continues with Prichett Brothers progressing on their work. There is now word yet when the project will be fully completed. Jimmie Jones Park Director reported that the inside of the building is looking very nice with cabinets and carpeting already ordered.


Clean-up of debris around the disc golf area is being done following the recent storms, with work at Otis Part with the (Red T on Hole 17 being expanded),( New Red T on 9) is also being expanded. Crews are also preparing equipment servicing and McIntyre Brothers assisted in getting the lighting at the tennis courts completed.





Recreation Director Report


  • Gary Dorsett reports the Adult Basketball League and Volleyball Leagues started on December 1, 2021. A special thank you to North Lawrence Community School and Dr. Mungle for allowing us to use their facilities. This year there is over 20 teams which will play a 12-game season.


  • On November 29-30 the Bedford Parks Department partnered with the White River Humane Society for the Annual Santa Paws event. This year, there were 60 individuals bring their dogs for photos with Santa. Proceeds going to the White River Humane Society.


  • Letters From Santa Program had 309 letters delivered to children this year. Bedford Paint & Body, Mike Long with American Family Insurance and Riverside Printing sponsored this year's event.

Santa Clause at Otis Park


  • Santa House was held on December 9-11 with 641 individuals attend the annual event at Otis Park. Special thanks to the volunteers along with Santa Clause, Mrs. Clause and Tri Kapea, Debbie Maze, and Michelle Adams.


  • The Bedford Parks Department is currently working on the upcoming Seasonal programs and event flyer.


  • On Wednesday the Bedford Parks Department will be providing transportation to IU Health Christmas Carolers.
