Bedford Park Board Approves LCA Request to Hold Hubert Wheatley Classic

BEDFORD - (January 18, 2022) - During their meeting Tuesday afternoon the Bedford Parks Board approved the Lawrence County Aquatics request to hold the Hubert Wheatley Classic.


The dates for this year's Hubert Wheatley Classic will be heldon on June 18-19 at the John Lowery Pool.


The Bedford Parks Department works to replace fencing around Fields 1 and 2 at Murray Forest Park

In other business:


  • Approved the 2022 Fee waived fee schedule

  • Board members were updated on the progress at the Red Brick with doors and windows are being installed. Hopefully the tile and hardwood floors will be installed, there has been a delay in the installation of H/VAC installation. All in all, Jimmie Jones was pleased with the progress that is being made.

  • Board members were updated on various other projects that are being undertaken throughout the park system. This includes installation of fencing around fields 1 and 2 at Murray Forest Park.

The Bedford Parks Department is accepting applications for umpires. The pay for umpires is $22 a game. For more information contact the Bedford Parks Department Office at 812-275-5692


Programs and Events


  • Adult Basketball and Volleyball is underway, Gary Dorsett wanted to thank the North Lawrence Community Schools for the use of their facilities.

  • The Park Outdoors program will begin on January 25, at 6:00 p.m. at the Otis Park Bathhouse. This meetings topic is (Collecting and Making Maple Syrup) Traci Schmitz will be the speaker. There is a lot of interest in this program. RSVP by calling the parks department office

  • February 1, 2022, The Bedford Parks Department will take a bus trip to French Lick Casino. The bus will depart the office at 4:00 p.m. there is a limit of 14 people. You must pre-register with a limit of 14 people. The cost is $15 a person. The bus will depart the Casino at 9:00 p.m. Other Casino dates include March 1st and April 5th. Call the parks department office to RSVP

  • Ball Park days and more trips to be taken over the summer will be announced soon. The Bedford Parks Department is working to utilize the bus trips more to other fun locations.

  • The Bedford Parks Department is looking for umpires. Each umpire will be paid $22 a game. For more information contact the park department office.
