BEDFORD - FEBRUARY 7, 2023 - A Bedford man was killed in a traffic accident on Indiana State Road 37 at John Williams Blvd. Monday morning. No other persons were injured in the accident.
Michael D. Wright, 65, Bedford was pronounced dead at the scene, of a three-vehicle accident.
The call reporting the accident came in at 11:44 am.
According to the police report Wright was stopped in left lane of southbound Indiana State Road 37 working on his disabled vehicle.
According to one witness account the hood of the vehicle was up and did not have any emergency flashers activated.
Kasey Caraway, age 49, Bedford, driving her 2005 Cadilac Escalade struck Wright's vehicle, according to witnesses it did not appear that Caraway was slowing down or changing lanes when her vehicle struck Wright's 1985 Jeep Wrangler.
Rebecca French, age 61, Bloomington was traveling in the right lane of Indiana State Road 37 in her 2013 Nissan Frontier, and she swerved to miss debris from the accident and struck Wright, who was thrown in her path.
According to the police report, none of the drivers appeared to be impaired. All the drivers involved were given blood tests to determine whether they were impaired which is standard in these types of accidents. Results from the tests are pending.

Indiana State Road 37 southbound lanes at Indiana State Road 58 were closed for several minutes while the accident was being investigated.
Bedford Police Department, Bedford Fire Department, IU Lifeline Ambulance, Lawrence County Coroner's Office, and Mikels Towing were at the scene.
Lawrence County Fire Territory Ambulance was dispatched to the scene but was later disregarded while enroute.
