Bedford firefighters Sgt. Isaac Crane and Firefighter 1st Class Levi Clark honored for rescue of occupant from house fire in February

BEDFORD - APRIL 17, 2024 - During the Bedford Board of works meeting Tuesday night two Bedford firefighters were honored for their heroic efforts in the rescue of a man from a burning home on February 26th.

Bedford Fire Chief Luke Pinnick described the night the two risked their lives to save the life of a man who was still inside the burning home.


" On February 26, 2024, at 11:11 pm Bedford firefighters were dispatched to a house explosion with victims still inside. When firefighters arrived, they were met with heavy fire coming from the front of house. Firefighters Crane and Clark conducted a primary search of the residence and was able to locate the victim inside the bedroom. They were able to drag the victim to safety and administer life saving measures. I am happy to say due to their quick action the patient is still alive," said Bedford Fire Chief Luke Pinnick presenting the lifesaving award.


" Thank you, gentlemen, for your service, and for your professionalism being a firefighter for the City of Bedford to all of our citizens. I just want to thank you for the job in this instance and job you do everyday, " said Bedford Mayor Sam Craig.




Original news story :BEDFORD - FEBRUARY 27, 2024 - The Indiana State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire that left one person dead and one person seriously injured Monday night.

The fire was reported around 11:15 pm reporting a explosion at 1911 12th Street.


According to Bedford Fire Chief Luke Pinnick fire crews from Bedford Fire Station #2 arrived to find heavy fire coming from the living room of residence.


All three fire stations responded to the scene and was able to get the fire quickly under control.



Fire crews found one person seriously injured from the fire. The person was transported from the scene by IU Lifeline Ambulance to IU Health Hospital in Bedford with an air ambulance dispatched to the hospital.


That person's condition is not known at this time.


A second person died at the scene. The names of the victims are being withheld until family members have been contacted.


The Indiana State Fire Marshal's have been contacted to determine the cause of the fire.



Bedford Fire Department, Bedford Police Department, Bedford Police Department Detective Division, Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, Lawrence County Coroner's Office,

and Duke Energy responded to the scene.
