Bedford City Council denies zoning change on Central Avenue for business purposes

BEDFORD - DECEMBER 20, 2023 - The Bedford City Council denied Jay Dee Waggoner's request for a zoning change from R-3 to B-1 for a property located at 1608 Central Avenue.

This is a rare moment when the city council breaks away from the recommendation of the Bedford Plan Commission's recommendation.

Bedford city council member Brad Bough expressed concerns about a trucking company being put in the location.

Bedford city council member Dan Bortner felt like the location needed to remain residential due to Bedford's lack of housing in Bedford's Edgewood addition.

The property is located behind Advanced Auto on Central Avenue.

One resident expressed they did not want a tavern at the location.

The property owner stated there will be no tavern or trucking company at the location. However, the city council did not make a motion to move the request forward.
