Bedford Board of Works Approves Contracts for More Sewer Engineering Work
BEDFORD - (March 22, 2022) -The Bedford Board of Works approved more engineering work and changes to the city's sewer master plan.
The last engineering study was conducted in 2014, since that study was completed, it was discovered that the lift station on K Street was experiencing overflows. Utilities Director Misty Adams stated those overflows was huge and at times could be as much as a million gallons of overflow was possible.
There is proposed development of Glen Meadows on the city's east side which the sewer would flow into the K Street lift station.
The cost of the Master Sewer Plan Update would cost $75,000.

Spider Creek Lift Station
The Board of Works also approved a preliminary study of the Spider Creek Lift Station. The original study done in 2004 for replacement of the line along Spider Creek and the railroad tracks was cost prohibitive. That study conducted by Donahue. The plan now calls for a storage container at the Spider Creek Lift Station. The engineering study for this project is $14,000.
In addition, the Board of Works also approved an agreement with Lochmueller Group to add sewer replacements along Mitchell Road and Denson Avenue from the leftover amount from the savings from the Sewer Treatment Plant Project. This project cost was $72,800.
In other business:
Approved a generator contract in the amount of $62,919.73 for Cummins to service the eight generators at the city's lift stations. This contract is a five-year contract with larger sum of payments on the 1st and 4th year of the contract.
Approved David Flinn's request for a Grapple Truck from Central Indiana Truck Equipment in the amount of $198,170.
There will be several road closures along J Street between 15th and 16th Streets in May, June and July for events to be held downtown. Mayor Craig stated all the businesses in the area were contacted.
The closures include:
May 13th - 14th - Crawfish Festival
May 27th and 28th - Music Fest DaCars Bar
June 17th - 18th - Charity for Autism Awareness
June 24th and 25th - Limestone Heritage Festival
July 3rd - Requested by First Baptist Church
J Street will be closed starting at 7:00 a.m. on these dates until the conclusion of the event.
