Accidents on U.S. 50 East keep emergency personnel busy Thursday morning

BEDFORD - FEBRUARY 8, 2024 - Two accidents that happened almost the same time on Thursday morning kept emergency personnel busy.

The 911 calls for the accidents came in around 9:09 am Thursday morning the first reporting an accident at Indiana State Road 446 and U.S. 50 East. In that accident a vehicle rear-ended a person driving a horse trailer. There were concerns about the horses being injured.

The Lawrence County Animal Control responded to the scene and assisted the horse owners.


Bedford Fire Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Lawrence County Fire Territory Ambulance, and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the first accident.


There was no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.


Within minutes Lawrence County 911 Dispatch received a report of a second accident on U.S.50 East just east of the Back Creek Road.

The driver of the vehicle and suffered a medical event and the vehicle rolled over several times going over the embankment. The vehicle landed several feet from the roadway.


Bedford Fire Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Lawrence County Fire Territory Ambulance, IU Lifeline Ambulance, and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department responded to the second accident.
