Popcorn Christian Church celebrates 151 years Sunday morning
The church which started in 1872 and in 2023 the parishioners made their way into the sanctuary with smiles and excitement as a day of Thanksgiving for another day of worship in a place they call home.

For many home means many things, and many have different feelings on what would make a place "home". As Pastor Andy Fish used his sermon to take the congregation on a spiritual view of home.
But in reality for the Christian " This World is not their home". But for the Christian, the master carpenter is preparing his people a permanent home, to live in someday.

In Pastor's Fish scripture reading from John Chapter 14 1-4 " Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. 2. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it where not so, I would have told you. I go prepare a place for you.3. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am ye may be also. 4. And whither I go ye may know.
The service filled with singing and celebrating this special day together.

Roland Wever was probably one of the oldest and longest attending Popcorn Church on Sunday morning talked about some of his memories of attending church over the years at Popcorn.

" I remember coming to homecoming all my life at this church. My dad helped with the sheep roast for years. My dad took over for Everett Wilson, Wilson living in the old school house that sat next to the church. My dad went to school there, however Everett married his school teacher and they closed the school then," said Roland Wever.
The church closed for a brief time when it was difficult trying to find a pastor for the church, and for period of time having no pastor when it re-opened.
" I can remember one ole preacher who after he was finished who asked, who's going to take me for dinner today," Wever added. "He was not bashful, that was for sure,"
My dad was an only child and there was eight of us kids who attended church here.
Roland and his wife Carolyn got married at the church on August 13, 1960, 63 years ago.
After the service the congregation made their way over to take part in a meal with their annual " Sheep Roast" and chicken.

For more than 37 years Dave Smith has been perfecting the art of cooking for this special day.
