LAWRENCE COUNTY - NOVEMBER 20, 2023 - The Miss Indiana Centennial Committee will be holding a celebration for the setting of the statue located at the Lawrence County Courthouse Square next Monday.
The Miss Indiana was set a top the Soldiers, Sailors and Pioneers Momument in 1923.
The celebations will take place on the west side of the Lawrencee County Courthouse at the base of the momument.
Immediately following the outdoor ceremony, the public is invited to attend an art show with light refreshments in the courthouse rotunda. Artwork by students from all Lawrence County schools. featuring the Miss Indiana Statue will be on display.
The celebration will begin at 4:30 pm with the presentation of Colors by the American Legion Gillen Post #33 and the placing of the Wreath by the Bedford Freemasons to honor the Lawwrence County pioneers who settled here.
Performances by both Bedford North Lawrence High School and Mitchell High School choirs.
The statue stands at 32 feet above the ground and weighs more than 12 tons.
